Previous install of 64 bit W7 was a regular install. The installation of W8 was an upgrade. No W7 left on my machine now. Period.

That particular one wasn't an upgrade.

I just joined as well to have a forum to see what kind of experiences everyone is having with Windows 8 and to keep up to date with any issues other people are sharing. Just installed W8 pro on 10/30. So far, so good.

If you believe that you will someday upgrade to W8, then by all means get it now while it's cheap. If you are comfortable with W7, you will have no problem with the basics. Desktop mode is basically W7 with a few little changes. Because I am not currently rebuilding my PC, I just upgraded...
