Hi I just tried it on safe mode and it worked. I was ale to access the hard drive and play around with it perfectly under windows 8 safe mode. I have a spare 3.5 external hard drive that I will try in normal mode

Thanks! yes it did work on my laptop 4-5 days ago. iwill run a virus scan now then use the tool to check my hdd. The hdd is only 2-3 weeks old. if the hdd is faulty why does it work perfectly fine on another laptop?
