    Refresh Windows 8

Peter, I was able to see the embedded screen shot in your first reply! I do have questions on what you wrote, so I'll break them out below. Also, I use a cd-rw disc to create the rescue disc as it changes often with updates. Do you create the rescue disc via Macrium? If so where do I find is...

    Refresh Windows 8

Question for you. On the Create a Backup tab my hard drive is broken down into 4 sections (see attached) (its not a partitioned drive). I have the option to deselect some of them. Would I need to image all 4 of sections?

    Refresh Windows 8

I have 8.1 on a USB and will be installing it fresh on the new drive i bought. The laptop is 1 year and 4 months old and did not come with any OS installation discs. I'm definitely going to download Macrium.

    Refresh Windows 8

I have not. I first need to re-install 8.1 on the new drive and then follow up with all the apps I had installed on my 1 TB drive. Macrium will now be on the list too.

    Refresh Windows 8

I was not necessarily looking for any information. Your original post read "Don't forget to image your operating system when you first install it or at least when it is running well. I use Macrium free and it is easy". I then googled 'Macrium' and went to this url: Macrium Reflect FREE Edition...

    Refresh Windows 8

Got it. Once i get the Win 8.1 OS loaded on the new drive, I'll download Macrium Reflect free. You say "It backs up files and folders as well as whole opersting systems" yet i saw that the files and folders option was not checked off in their comparison chart, but I'm not going worry about...

    Refresh Windows 8

I googled Macruim free version. Looks good with the exception that it does not perform File and Folder backup so I guess you just use it for disk cloning (DR).

    Refresh Windows 8

The laptop was only 1 year and 4 mos old and like you said its a crap shoot. I now bought a 500 GB drive and will use my external drives to store stuff off.

    Refresh Windows 8

The laptop came with a 1 TB drive installed which I thought was a plus. Apparently they do not function very well and a 500 GB or 750 GB drive is better. So much for wanting to have built in large storage. Live and learn.

    Refresh Windows 8

The issue ended up being a failing hard drive. I purchase a replacement drive and will be installing it and a clean OS shortly. Thanks to all!

    Refresh Windows 8

Thanks Brink. That is one long list but I'll review and see which optimizations I can apply.

    Refresh Windows 8

Hello, my laptop running 8.1 has been sluggish lately; i.e. Chrome lagging/not responding message in the title bar then responding again, same with MS Office products like Word. Would a Refresh help with this? Thanks!

    Windows 8.1 Acting Sluggish....

@ jpolacko what pesky program wasn't compatible with Win 8.1?

    Windows 8.1 Acting Sluggish....

I'll try another browser like IE for a bit and compare. @ lastof, are you saying that ZoneAlarm may be the culprit, given that Chrome is the app 'not responding'? What dependency would there be?

    Windows 8.1 Acting Sluggish....

Thanks for the MS article. I performed the steps and determined that I still have the problem, hence it's not caused by a software conflict, and the tutorial was not be able to help. What at times is 'not responding' is Chrome. ZoneAlarm and Synaptics TouchPad Enhancements is what is enabled...
