I saw people removing usb sticks al the time so i thought it didn't matter much. but should it even do anything to the hdd ? but is there a way to fix this ?

I was copying my files on a USB, then I took it out ( without safely removing) and went out. When i got back, the laptop has already shut itself. when i turn it on it goes Operatin System Not Found. I use windows 8.1 and only 1 hard drive. When the PC goes into VAIO care rescue mode everything...
