User/kernel mode isn't new to windows 8. It's been a fundamental element of the NT kernel since it was created 20 years ago.

I think the idea is that DirectX is somehow as great as it could ever be, which is ridiculous. Microsoft wouldn't switch to OpenGL, they'd just quit moving DirectX forward. I think the OP is wrong, because DirectX is also used in other applications than just games, and newer versions improve not...

I thought we were talking about functionality? If it's about looking "futuristic"/h4x0r friendly, then I'm sure there's probably some ridiculous hollywood-made film computer interface that fits the bill better than any of them.

The availability of information at a glance, the ability to easily use touch interaction, the smooth operation of the interface, clean design... how many points need to be made?
