THanks for the help. I now have the upgrade file and I have created the DVD from the ISO file. Problem solved.

I don't have an upgrade file on my desktop! All I have is the "Download Windows" icon of the upgrade assistant. That then seemed to start at the pre-purchase stage. However it has now started downloading Win 8 again.

My own fault, I got cold feet during installation because I had not realised that the downloaded version would go straight to install and I was afraid it would immediately overwrite my stable and established Win 7 64bit. What I wanted to do was to save the downloaded Windows 8 installation file...
