    Problem with External Hard Drive

Hey Jim, If you are really good with a soldering iron, I would say this has a fair chance of working. If it were mine, I'd probably give it a shot. James

    Will AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8Ghz 736 mb RAM work with 8.1 ?

I think Windows 7 has a strong possibility of success. You'll still want to upgrade that ram to at least 2gb, though.

    Waking From Sleep ? ? ?

I would try making the keyboard the only device that is allowed to wake the computer. Because your mouse works by detecting motion, it is far more likely to send a false signal and wake up the computer than your keyboard.

    Will AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8Ghz 736 mb RAM work with 8.1 ?

Unfortunately, the Sempron 3000+ cpu doesn't support compareexchange128, which is a requirement of Windows 8.1. If I wanted to keep that machine working for a bit, I would install Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

Solved how to tell a HDD has failed?

Good job on saving your data! You should check if your old drive was still under warranty - if so, you can RMA it and get a replacement for the cost of shipping. Or even better, see if you can get the retailer who sold you the original drive to RMA it for you. It worked for me once! :D

    Solved Wrong Screen Resolution

Hi, I'm glad you found a solution.

In that case, I would try reinstalling the video driver from the Lenovo site: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/1fvh09ww.exe

    Solved Wrong Screen Resolution

Hi Ariftwister, So the setting in your screen resolution panel does not match the actual display resolution. That is really mysterious. What resolution does whatismyscreenresolution.com say you end up with if you intentionally set the display resolution to 1536x834? I would try that, and then...

Using Onboard Video & Video Card w/2 Monitors

The only practical difference between the DVI and VGA signals (other than the audio capacity of DVI) is that VGA, being analogue, can be degraded by poor cable quality or very long runs of cable. The DVI signal, being digital, will either work perfectly or not at all. I would just put the...

    Problem with External Hard Drive

Unfortunately, you'll probably need to send it to a lab that can replace the controller card on the drive. In my previous employment, I sent dozens of customer's drives to a lab in Southern Ontario, and never saw an estimate less than $500. I believe this is par for the course. Basically, the...

    Second screen not working

You could try a repair installation before you go to a full reinstall: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26095-repair-install-windows-8-a.html It's not supposed to remove data, applications or apps from the Windows Store, but I would probably take the opportunity to back up all your data...

Solved how to tell a HDD has failed?

Good Luck! Since you're getting a new drive anyway, I'd strongly recommend copying the data from the old to the new asap. I look forward to hearing how it works out.

Solved how to tell a HDD has failed?

Hi iUnique, My local computer parts store sells Western Digital Black 1tb drives for under $100... The thing is, although you may be able to map the bad sectors on your drive using chkdsk, I would consider this unit extremely unreliable at this point. It could possibly be stable, but odds are...

    2gb Usable ram on 64bit Windows 8.1

The situation you describe is usually the result of bent cpu pins, or a poorly seated processor. The fix seems to be to pull and re-seat the processor, carefully straightening any bent pins while you have it out. Check this out: Windows 7 x64 says RAM 4 GB but 2 GB usable [Solved] - Gigabyte -...
