I had a longish 'hang' with Win8 on a SSD during appearance of the system tray icons, and it was totally cured last week when I updated my Radeon driver to the latest one. It was already uptodate with the previous driver. So my hang was something to do with the graphics driver. Bob frost

To run Defender update each day separately from Win Update, just set up a Task Schedule to run "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -SignatureUpdate -MMPC That is what I do as I only run Win Update when there are updates, not automatically downloaded and installed. Bob Frost
