My computer says file type not supported for the xls type files. I looked it up in help and it seems like it has to do with codecs ? media packs ? I'm lost<<<<comp illiterate>>>>. also said to search windows store for an app that can help but I don't know what to look for. I have 8.1

One day I go to shutdown/hibernate/sleep button and a pop up says "no power options available". I can still preform these options but I have to go through signing out first then picking. How do I change this? Oh, and no, I didn't add or upgrade, etc. anything lately.
