    Solved 8.1 Successes?

No problems here either, download and update went smoothly. The only thing I needed to do upon completion was to change the PC settings to login automatically.

    Windows 8.1 Final - installation

Guess I misunderstood your problem but, if you have recovered you W8 Final, with its EUFI support, then I don't see why you'd want to do a new install of 8.1 instead of an update. I've read about EUFI but have no practical experience of it, both machines I'm running 8 / 8.1 on don't support it...

    Windows 8.1 Final - installation

Hi kaieivindm, As its name implies Windows 8 Final is a finished version ( barring subsequent updates of course ) whereas Windows 8.1 Preview is a test, or Beta, version which can contain bugs and errors. As such you should never upgrade from a production to a test OS: [FAQ] Things to Know...

    Alternative to ExpatShield

Does anyone know of an alternative to ExpatShield which works in Windows 8 ? I've contacted ExpatShield and they currently have no plans for a W8 version. Strangely enough it worked perfectly in all of the preview versions. Thanks in advance for any help

I have vista 64 bits and would like to upgrade to windows 8

I'm with PIKU on this one Cathy, go for it gal and dump the bloatware that Vista is, overboard. W8 might take a bit of getting used to, especially the Metro ( or whatever they've decided to call it now ) interface but I think it will be worth it in the long run and for the price it's available...

Dual boot | Windows 8 on ssd and Linux Mint on hdd

Hi Donovan, If your new PC is still empty then why don't you download Windows 8 Release Preview and LinuxMint (DVD version) and install them. This will give you experience both of installing a dual boot system and of the OSs themselves. Assuming your SSD is large enough, why not install LM...

Microsoft's Windows 8: Will it breathe new life into older PCs?

Certainly agree with you there Jimbo, I have both another laptop and a desktop fitted with an SSD and they both run extremely fast regardless of the booted OS ( W7/W8/Linux multiboot ). Couldn't, as far as I know, go that way with the Acer laptop though as it has an IDE drive but, considering...

Microsoft's Windows 8: Will it breathe new life into older PCs?

It certainly will. I installed it on a 7-8 year old Acer Travelmate ( 1.6Ghz Intel Celeron processor, 2GB ram ) which, like Robr's machine, was struggling under XP and it runs very well. Which it incidentally also does running either Zorin 5.2 or Linux Mint 13 so I guess yer pays yer money ( or...

How did you setup your Win 8 install?

Initially tried the DP version on an 8-year old laptop, installed without problems much to my surprise and, considering the hardware it was installed on, ran extremely well. Followed up with the CP and RP versions, plus Classic Shell to bypass the Metro interface. These also ran well so went for...

    Solved Windows 8 RP - 32 or 64 bit version ?

Hi there, I've been running W8 CP on old laptop for a while now and, Metro interface apart, I quite like it ( I installed Classic Shell to get rid of, or at least suppress, the Metro UI ) and I'd now like to install the RP on my desktop alongside W7. The latter is the 32 bit version although...
