Solved Setup stops at "Getting files ready for installation"

I'm trying to install the Windows 8 Preview x64. I've successfully installed it on my old laptop and a Latitude ST from work, but it won't install on my main PC.

I go through the setup wizard as normal; no errors. But, when it comes to the actual installing part, it gets stuck on "Getting files ready for installation (12%)". The computer is not frozen at this point - I still have full control of the mouse, and if I eject the DVD setup complains that it's missing. I've left it for an hour and it doesn't progress past 12%.

Is the 12% significant? Could it be a hardware issue? (my specs should be below)

Thanks for your help.

AFAIK the 12% isn't significant. I've found I have better results using a USB. Also, you're ISO may be corrupted. If the USB thing doesn't work, try another ISO.

My laptop is my only computer. It is about 2 years old.
SATA 3 drive controllers might be the problem try switching to SATA 2.

Otherwise, Install onto a different machine, make an image of that - restore image to your main pc.

This is a fairly common problem with Windows 7 as well. Could be corrupt image or something.

I downloaded a ISO and it copied over to the USB fine using Ruffus, when I am installing it to the 4th partition (others are the reserved, recovery etc.) while its installing it copy files instantly then the getting files ready part it crashes at 48%. ive tried multiple USB sticks, different ports and whenever i try windows installation media it either has a random "error" or it says after a long time could not create bootable USB. it also pisses me off it doesnt save the ISO to your computer so you dont have to redownload it every god damn time

Not sure where your getting your download from but try this Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help you will have the option to download the ISO.
As to USB thumb Drives, I have found that some need to be Cleaned and then formatted Fat 32. This has worked for me on USB Thumb Drives that failed to create recovery media. Size needs to be minimum 4GB since there all the same I usually buy 8GB thumb drives then there are less issues.

You should be installing to the disk, the install will create all the partitions windows 8 needs to run, boot and restore.

Not sure I understand the question.

You linked to where you got 8.0.

I asked why you don't get 8.1 from there.

57%

Only one person in this thread actually tried to answer the question.

I have run into this error on many systems using OEM media.

Dropping down to SATA II can possibly fix the error. However AHCI seems to be more of a culperate.
I have systems with factory 8.1 disks that run into this error. always at 57%

Try and tinker with SATA power or speed settings.

Reran the setup using another of the same exact OEM disk.. and soared right past that mark.
i dont know what is being loaded but this is annoying. a different OEM may halt at a different %

-oh and AHCI is OFF and MB is set to IDE mode. enable AHCI after win is installed.
