Windows 8 installation - won't let me upgrade!

Hi there!

I've encountered a remarkable problem with trying to upgrade my current installation of Windows 7 x64. I'm running bootcamp from a Macbook Pro which has no DVD drive, so I'm using a bootable USB created from an ISO using Microsoft's very own software to do so.

I'm running the Windows 8 setup.exe whilst in Windows 7, and the setup assistant tells me I need to "manually remove" the "Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller driver", as it isn't compatible with Windows 8.

Here is the dilemma:

1) Remove drivers and device using device manager
2) Forces me to restart
3) Reboot into Windows 7 -> can no longer access my USB drives AT ALL because of the removed drivers!
4) Using the automatic search for drivers yields no results at all.
5) Because I cannot use my USB drives, I can no longer open the setup.exe on the bootable USB stick! ARGH!

I've tried to just click on "Restart your PC to continue the installation" anyway, but when I boot back into Windows 7, the Windows 8 setup assistant just keeps telling me I need to remove this damn driver.

Any help would be really greatly appreciated! I'm starting to figure this update is a waste of time and just to do a clean install

I'm having the same problem and I have no USB 2 ports available. Uninstalling USB 3 drivers renders teh machine useless. Any help out there for this?
