Last night I was installing he Windows 8 RP over my Win7 partition. Now, when I boot up my laptop, I am greeted with a plain black screen, nothing else, no BIOS, Nada. I tried putting in my windows 7 recovery disk, and nothing happens. Is there any way to fix this?

The no BIOS is disturbing as that should have nothing to do with windows or no windows or 7 or 8 or anything like that...

You might try disconnecting the drive completely. See of the BIOS "Press F2..." (or whatever) prompt at least shows up.

Do the fans spin up? Power light comes on etc?

So your power supply is likely not actually supplying power to the motherboard. Well there is always some, if there are some LEDs and to test for the power button etc. But if the fans don't spin up at all then the MAIN power is not being turned on.

This can be because of a blown power supply OR it can often be from something in the computer being slightly unseated (The video card is often a culprit) or a power cable on a hard drive is not seated entirely (Stupid sata power cables grumble).

Something else could be shorting the motherboard, dropped screw etc...

Were you inside the computer swapping hard drives or anything like that during the install?

No, its a laptop, so I really couldn't have been touching any hardware. Should I try plugging in my laptop and seeing if it powers on?

Edit:Alright, interesting. I think the battery might have finally taken a dump on me, because everything worked once plugged in. Guess I'll have to buy a new one. But for some reason, m still losing the screen, but everything else seems to work.
