I installed the windows 8 consumer preview today with no issues but am having trouble getting back onto vista. Every time the machine is restarted or shutdown it automatically loads windows 8. Any suggestions?

Hello soundsthesame, and welcome to Eight Forums.

While in Windows 8, double check using OPTION TWO or OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to see if you have Vista listed. If so, set the to display list of operating systems setting for about 30 seconds. This will give you enough time at boot to be able to select Vista when you like.

Hopefully you didn't install Windows 8 over Vista by mistake.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I think I might have...in the boot tab on msconfig windows 8 is the only option. If I did install 8 over vista which seems to be the case is there any way to go about reversing the damage?

Edit: Link was removed...

I would maybe suggest to the site admin to not allow links to imageshack any more. Got two popups in FF, one for a sex site at work even. They have gone way to aggressive and sunk downhill in the intrusive and get-you-fired-at-work type ads lately...

Unfortunately, you did install Windows 8 over Vista on your C: partition. :(

Luckily, you're "healthy" recovery partition is still intact to be able to restore Vista back to factory default if you like. This will wipe out Windows 8 though. If interested, the link below from Acer can help show you how to.

Acer Support: Frequently Asked Questions list for How to use Acer eRecovery

You really don't have enough space on the HDD to be able to create a new logical partition to install Windows 8 on after doing a factory restore. Adding a second HDD would help for you to be able to install Windows 8 on it instead and leave your Vista HDD intact.
