Can I use Windows 8.1 on my Intel Pentium 4 520 PC

Now my question is : Can I use Windows 8.1 on my PC ? (Currently I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate )

With only 2GB of RAM, at best the 32 bit OS version, if at all. Along with Win 8.1, there are drivers to consider. Some older hardware does not have Win 8/8.1 drivers available.

The sound MUST have Win 8.1 drivers to work, the Win 7 drivers are not compatible. That was a big issue for users that upgraded from Win 7 and when Win 8.1 came out their sound no longer worked with the older drivers.

I can't speak specifically regrading your particular computer but believe that there is a very good chance it will work. I installed 32-bit Win 8.1 on a netbook with an anemic Atom processor and 1.5GB of RAM and it worked fine.

Tomorrow I will install Windows 8.1 on my system to check if it works. But currently I have one question, will it damage my system ?

It won't cause any harm. Make sure you have a backup copy of Win 7 or better yet, install Win 8 on a different hard drive in case it doesn't work out. All you have to do is switch drives and back on Win 7.

Install media for Windows 7 is next to impossible to find these days, so if you don't have any recovery media or install media, your going to want to make an image of your current install. Just in case Windows 8 doesn't work out.

There are many Windows 7 PC's, that run just great, but try to install even the x86 version of 8.1 and they will choke!
I have a couple of those, but ..... every one of them has an Intel cpu installed. With the ones that have an AMD cpu, even when they are ten years old, I've had no problems installing Windows 8.1/x86 (32 bit). As was previously mentioned, the sound drivers may be the hardest thing to find. Video and LAN don't seem to usually be a problem. Windows 8.1 does come with a great driver pack. It will even find and install my Epson XP-410 printer. (but not the scanner)
In more than one case, I just installed a low-cost sound card and the sound problem was solved.
