My laptop hdd has failed and my windows 8 key is on the chip on the motherboard.
I will be replace the hdd for a new one
I read this:
Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help
installs windows 8.1 using the embedded oem key
Windows 8 oem keys are now accepted for windows 8.1 installations
Is this true?
Does this also true of windows 10?
I have extracted the key from the motherboard chip,
So can I just create a clean install of windows 10 and use the key from windows 8.
or
Do I need to install window 8.1, then run the windows 10 upgrade?
