When upgrading to Win10, will I lose the layout I have?

Hi

Everything works fine on my Win8.1 laptop with Classic Shell installed, with everything as I want it.

When I eventually update to Win10 will the layout I currently have change in any way, including Classic Shell layout and settings?

Will I be able to start Firefox with the last saved session (I should be able to as I use the 'session manager' plugin)?

Thanks

That is a definite maybe!

In most cases everything should be the same except for software that is not compatible with Windows 10 or pirated software which Windows 10 will delete.

The best way to upgrade to Windows 10 is to create an image backup of your existing setup to an external hard drive using a program like Macrium Reflect Free. Then if anything goes wrong you can restore back to where you started in 20 minutes or so.

I'd recommend uninstalling Classic Shell before the upgrade then reinstall the latest version after the upgrade completes.

I use Classic Shell also, I upgraded as Ztruker recommended starting the upgrade install from within window 8.1. I had the latest version at the time of Classic Shell 4.2 I think they now have another release. My experience was that everything pretty much stayed as it was. The Metro bar thing was attached to the start menu I think in the end I just hid it to get rid of it. Other than that no issues, Boot sequence remained start to log in and then directly to desktop my Gadgets needed a refresh install of 8 Gadget pack that ran automatically after my approval. Then most of my gadgets worked the only issue was with All CPU Meter Gadget the temp could not find the PC meter running to show temp. I solve that by installing Coretemp. MS office 2013 Pro Plus ran some updates I had to set default IE 11 away from edge. All minor issues. this was all done on a mostly new Asus Z97 Pro Build with a fairly new install of 8.1 Pro.
Just make your Disk Image before you start to insure if anything goes south you have a recover path. I agree with Ztruker, Macrium Reflect is a good program for making images and restoring them trouble free. I also use the paid version for routine local back ups.
I just thought if you use Quick Launch mine was still there but I had to reposition again after getting rid of the Metro Bar thing.

The one thing I did not like was the huge Cortana search bar on the left side of the Task bar. Just right click on it then Search and select Hidden or show Search icon.

This is what my Desktop looks like in Windows 10, which is almost identical to what it looked like in Windows 8.1:

Should work OK. but to be safe, you should save off the current Profile so you can restore from it, if needed.
