windows 10

I may probably go to windows 10 on my Laptop. It has 8.1. my PC will not upgrade? It downloads 8, but refuses to load 8.1.
Something about the processor. Can 8 still upgrade to 10 somehow?

As far as I'm aware, no. You need to have 8.1 to do the upgrade.

Right, can upgrade to the free Win10 only when booted into Win7 w/SP1 or Win8.1, not offered for other versions.

If you have Win8.1 on the Notebook/Laptop I don't think you can go back to Win8 except by using the factory restore feature. After that you can get 8.1 free from the Store, update it and when the 4-white-block icon shows in the Notification Area do the Reserve or GWX thing and check for updates every day, should tell you Win10 is ready to download and install. That icon I mentioned is the same look as on the Windows key on the keyboard. I've done 4 Win10 Upgrades, a Desktop, a Notebook, a Tablet and now a 2nd Notebook, got a couple more to go.

Quite a few people have reported upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 10. You will have to use the MediaCreationTool, not the Windows Update: Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation

Seems strange, only windows 7 and 8.1. Why not 8? Oh well.

Doesn't show it but 8 can also be upgraded. I think you have to use the MediaCreationTool to do it though as you won't be offered the Get Windows 10 icon (GWX) if you have 8.1.
