Hey;

I have had some issues upgrading to W10, I have searched a few forums for the answer but keep getting looped with a solution.

no one gives a straight answer just says cannot update to windows 8.1* not 10

this is the error message I am getting

windows10issue.png

I have tried both windows update, and mediaconverter from the windows site to "force update" and both have the same issue

anyone have any ideas of what I can do, or possibly point me in a direction of somewhere else to look?

thanks;

Rats!!

The only thing I can think to try at this point is to backup your data then do a clean install of 8.1 then an immediate upgrade to 10 using the MediaCreationTool.

thats exactly what I did,.. it worked... except... now it says my windows is not activated.

I got an error, got ahold of tech support chat, they said WAIT 24 hours, its been 75+ hours still not activated and now im 20th in line to talk to another tech support chat to see if we can solve this issue, i'll update with the solution

So, After 1 week of trying to get some help, it took about 20 mins for them to tell me that I had reinstall factory settings and do all my upgrades because when I did the W10 upgrade, instead of choosing *upgrade* I chose Install (clean Install) which lost the prod key for my installed windows version

so my steps were

1. Reinstall windows 8
2. Do windows 8.1 upgrade
3. Do windows 10 upgrade + updates

now everything seems to run smoothly now

I find the Start menu and charms a bit sleeker but seems like its alot better then W8, but i kinda did like the idea of the snap windows where you could open 2 different apps at the same time
