Hi guys!
Sorry to trouble you with another Win 10 install problem, but I'm at my wits' end.
Before I go on, I should state that I'm a SysAdmin in real life, so I really embarrassed at not being able to solve this on my own, but on the other hand you can go technical on me
My machine is a W8.1 Pro, installed on a DIY Gaming machine. So, I have been having tons of trouble getting the "Get Win 10" icon to appear, going to the extent of uninstalling and reinstalling KB3035583. I tried the FixWin10 script as well, which didn't help. Then one day it decided to appear on its own. Fine.
So I get the above error code when installing W10, and Google isn't particularly helpful here. There's other people who have ran into this error, but not with the W10 install.
So that's one problem. Lemme elaborate on the next.
I feel that my install of W8.1 is screwed up in some way. While trying to troubleshoot the issue with the W10 icon, I tried several things like starting the upgrade from a W10 USB Key, and repairing my W8.1 installation, by starting the W8.1 setup.exe from within Windows and choosing upgrade. I get the following error message:
"The computer started using the Windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade. (Do not select “Custom (advanced)” to perform an upgrade. “Custom (advanced)” installs a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings.)"
The thing is, I did start it normally from within Windows, so I have no idea why setup thinks that the computer started using the Windows Installation Media. The only theory I have is that my current installation of Windows is installed in some unfinished state.
So right now, I have two problems. Being able to upgrade to W10, and being unable to repair my PC. I am pretty damn sure the two problems are related somehow. Running SFC /scannow tells me that SFC did find some corrupt files, but are unable to service them. Running DISM /online /restorehealth tells me that it can't service Windows PE (WTF??).
Lastly, thanks for reading! I apologise if my post is messy, but as you can see it really is a very complex issue. I would really like to be able to fix this without having to reformat
