How to upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit?

So, I found this site that says YOU CAN and now my question is: HOW? In my properties in My Computer it says that my laptop is 64-bit capable. I bought a Windows 8.1 CD and I'm always getting this error that says it's for 64-bit and it looks like I have to upgrade my laptop to 64-bit. Can y'all help me because I really want to upgrade it into Windows 8.1?1?

I understand from the title that you want to upgrade from Win 7 32-bit to Win8.1 64-bit. You can do this upgrade but you can't switch from 32 bit to 64bit (or vise versa) without doing a "clean" install which means you would need to reinstall everything (so backup all your files).

If you have the 64-bit disk you can use it, or you would download the "64 bit" version of Windows from here http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.html and create an install CD or USB stick, then install and use the "Windows Key" you just bought for the 8.1 CD when you get the activation step.

It sounds like you have the "64 bit" disk and Windows is telling (warning) you that you can't do the upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. Then just create the installation USB stick as described in the link above and boot off the USB stick. That will launch the Windows 8.1 installation process. I have not seen a recent computer that would not let you run either the 32 or 64 bit versions (but if your computer is real old, the CPU may not be designed to work with 64 bit. See this link for instructions on how to tell if your computer will run Windows 64 bit 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions - Windows Help).

Never mind. I solved my problem myself. I just reboot my laptop then run the Windows 8.1 CD. Now, I already have a Windows 8.1 on my laptop. Thanks for trying to help. :)
