WinXP not recognized

Hi,

I formated my spare 500gb HD & installed XP with the intention of eventually upgrading it to w8 & w10.

Unfortunately for some reason it will not boot.

I installed that HD on my w8.1 PC & booted it up.

The 500gb HD shows up, & can see the Windows in C:\ & which expands to its directories & files.

Can anybody tell me where I went wrong? ..........thanx ...........nick

need more info - you seem to have left out a few steps..

do you install XP via a setup media while the disk was internal?? how you get xp to disk? you then swap into another pc and it booted ??

I installed XP with my MS purchased XP DVD.
