Solved Can i delete old partition without loosing OEM key

As title, i would like to know whether is possible to fresh install Windows 8.1 from bootable dvd and format the old partition with the preinstalled software on it, without loosing the oem key. I at the moment have two versions of Windows 8.1, and would like to delete the preinstalled one.

Yes your original key is embedded on your motherboard. A clean Install of Windows 8.1 will automatically activate as long as you install the same version that was orignaly installed. By that I mean OEM Core Pro Single language and now they have a version with Bing. So be careful that you download the correct 8.1 ISO.

You will lose your factory recovery partition, which you don't really need anyway. I use Macrium Reflect and create Disk Images during the install and configuration process. Clean Install of window no update or other software make image. Windows update and hardware drivers install Make Image, basic programs installed make Image. Totally up and configured Make an image. This way if issues arise you only to go back to the Image that didn't have what caused the issue. After that continue your back up strategy.
