Installing using DVD media from an iso image downloaded from Technet. Tried installing on a spare partition and it goes through OK but ends at a permanent black screen...at which I waited some 30 minutes and it never cleared. It would appear that it can't load the graphics driver, assuming it found one, in regular mode. If I try to boot into Safe Mode I get the choices screen but it then says can't do it until installation is complete....which wont complete anyway. So I'm stuck.

Very weird.

Discovered the reason for the black screen. I had forgotten that my TV is also connected to my graphics card via HDMI - the card (nVidia GTX295) had for some reason known only to itself and its designers, decided that my monitor was the secondary unit and the TV was the main one. As soon as I realized that it was easy enough to fix.

Sorry posting this late but thought it may help someone in a similar situation.
