Windows 8.1 new install with UEFI BIOS, errors!

Hello,
Recently assembled a brand new PC using the asrock Q1900DC-ITX Motherboard. I have a brand new Samsung 850 SSD 120GB, 4GB ram, etc.

I have a Windows Enterprise 64 bit ISO file. The Motherboard is UEFI. I followed the step by step directions in the UEFI tutorial. I used Rufus on a 16GB flash drive. All went well.

I made the adjustments in the BIOS to boot to the UEFI USB drive, restarted, then windows begins to install. Problem is, I only get through the 2nd step where Windows is beginning to install (with the green check marks etc). I then get various errors including 0x80070057 and this one most often 0xC0000005 - verify installation sources are accessible.....

I also tried using the Windows 7 DVD download tool to create a bootable DVD......same issues. I do on occasion get a "memory management error" during the attempted install and the pc restarts itself mid way. It seems as if the pc just restarts if I let it sit for a period of time during the very early steps of the install/

Ive been trying various things over the last 3 days with NO luck. Any suggestions? Also, will a bootable windows DVD work in my situation (with UEFI BIOS)?

Im getting desperate lately:)

Thanks,
Brandon

The first one, to create the bootable media will work with enterprise. The second one is to download the non enterprise version, that's no good to you.

Gotcha.

I also am going to try 8.1 Pro 64 bit this morning. So use option #2 (manual method)? If so, does it matter that I am creating the boot file on a Windows 7 32 bit pc? This is not the PC I am installing 8,1 on.

No it shouldn't matter. The key is setting the partition on the flash drive active and formatting in fat 32. A lot of PC's will not install in UEFI mode if the thumb drive is formatted in NTFS. It almost sounds like you have a hardware issue RAM or hard drive. Might even want to try a different thumb drive in case that one has issues. They do fail eventually.

I did use Seagate tools to run the test on my SSD and there were no errors. I also tested my 4GB ram stick last night using memtest86 or whatever it is and it passed without a single issue. My next option is a motherboard issue but first I will try using Win 8.1 Pro with a different thumb drive. Im hoping I will luck out:) I appreciate all of your help! I will report back in a bit.

so I tried it and nothing:( This is beginning to get very frustrating. I almost think its hardware related. Motherboard is brand new, maybe I should contact newegg and ask for exchange.

any other thoughts?

I would get a new copy of your install media, what ever work gave you, get a new copy. Maybe its corrupt. You could download and try this, Try Windows 8.1 Enterprise | TechNet Evaluation Center Once its installed you should be able to activate with your work product code.

I did download a completely different versions of windows this morning (pro 64 bit) and that did not work either, I was thinking of trying Windows 7 pro just for kicks.

since you are getting that far - the media is bootable

the next usual issue is it may need the ACHI storage driver

if you could get a error screen shot?

Windows 7 pro 64 worked!!!!
One issue, the Ethernet port does not seem to be working. I cannot get online to activate. before I try windows 8, I will use the driver cd the motherboard came with first.

Once that's working, I will throw in the Windows 8.1 dvd and see what happens,

Cross your fingers gents!

I had a few more crashes while messing in windows 7. I then tried 8.1 and it was indicating my TV resolution wasn't enough (I have it only connected via HDMI). My plasma is 1080p....weird.

I may try 7 over again and then install the LAN driver. How do I get the VGA output to work? Apparently there are no drivers after the install and the Asrock DVD created all sorts of error messages when I tried it.

edit - does Ethernet have to be working to install windows?
