I'm new to Lenovo, Win 8 and to this forum. I'm considering buying Lenovo Y50-70 Notebook model 59441814 - Intel Core i7 4270HQ, 8GB DDR3L, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 860M 4GB, 15.6" Touchscreen, 4K UHD, USB 3.0, no DVD drive and Windows 8.1 pre-installed. I also have retail MS Win 8.1 Pro "Full Version" 64 bit DVD and key. Would like upon receipt of laptop to: (1) replace 256GB SSD with a Crucial MX200 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" SSD and (2) do a complete clean install using my retail 8.1. Reasons are: increased capacity and get rid of all the unnecessary stuff that manufacturers pre-install. Since I don't have a DVD drive and I have read there are some issues with boot security, can someone provide recommendation on sequence of steps to follow.

How to download and clean install Windows 8.1 if you have an OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8/8.1 product key. -> link

Normally, you do not need to change the UEFI firmware (BIOS) settings, for example, the boot order of drives, enable Legacy BIOS boot mode, or disable Secure Boot. So, do not change the UEFI firmware (BIOS) settings.

- Connect your Windows 8.1 USB flash drive or insert your Windows 8.1 DVD.
- Restart the computer.
- Press the correct key to enter the boot menu (see this link for help). Or, if you have a Lenovo computer, you can also press the NOVO button when the computer is turned off and then select "Boot Menu".
- Select your USB/DVD from the boot menu.

Note: If you have an OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8/8.1 product key, the Windows 8.1 installer should automatically detect product key from UEFI firmware (BIOS). If the Windows 8.1 installer can't detect Windows 8/8.1 product key from UEFI firmware (BIOS), it means that you have the wrong installation media.

I also have retail MS Win 8.1 Pro "Full Version" 64 bit DVD and key.

Download Windows 8.1 Pro.
