I have installed windows 8 on a drive 320GB and I have another that is 320GB I'm looking to stripe them together. Does this mean I have to format both drives first in order to RAID 0 them or can I just extend the partition from one to another,

One of the 320GB is the C:\

I do have a 1TB I am using as a system image/Folder history backup. this is why I am trying to stripe instead of mirror it.

Thanks

No.

A RAID 0 array on creation always contains no data. Any existing data in the drives will be lost, at least with consumer grade controllers. It may be possible with some enterprise class controllers but you are hardly likely to be using one of them.

I am not a big fan of RAID 0 and I think you will find few experienced members of this forum who are. In practice the performance is usually not worth the potential problems. One being, if one drive fails you loose all of the data. Many people rush into one form or other of RAID without understanding the implications. Later they learn that RAID isn't going to do what they wanted.

When using RAID 0 is is very important that you have a current backup of your files. Data recovery from a RAID 0 array can be a challenge, even for a data recovery professional.

That's why I set up the Backup on a 1TB as well with system image and windows 8 folder backup option.

Thanks Might just leave it as a extra drive to store what ever on it then.
