Clean install of Windows 8 Freezes just after Spinner

Hello have got stuck on what should be simple.

Have successfully already got the latest current 32-Bit Windows 8.1 (upgrade 1 etc.) running smoothly (since it was released to market) using the original retail Windows 8 Pro DVD Physical Media (from Amazon [pre-order]) to upgrade from within a running & activated copy of 32-Bit Windows XP Pro SP3.

Ideally would like to move to 64-Bit Windows 8 (then 10) to access 8GB of RAM.

Have just discovered that neither my 32-Bit or 64-Bit Microsoft Windows 8 Pro Upgrade DVD's will clean install with a single blank HDD.

Both Win8 DVD's boot, then the blue 4 panel Windows logo appears, then the white dots circular spinner appears below the blue Windows logo, then the entire screen goes blank to black (but remains powered on) and nothing then seems to take place - no HDD light activity any more - nor any DVD Drive light activity that stops as well - just slow light pattern changes on my lit up (Crucial Ballistix Tracer) RAM.

The desktop has been at black screen for just over an hour now (writing this on laptop) no HDD / DVD indicator light activity - even with a brand new SATA cable!

Any ideas how to overcome this weird problem as also would ideally like to be able to clean install just Windows 8.1.

Regards.

Hi,

I am also having this problem with my win8 DVDs. The 32 bit actually throws an :( error screen after the spinners, but the 64 bit just goes blank/black like yours. I have no idea what to do.

Instead of using the Win 8 dvds which you will have to waste hours installing windows updates and stuff to get to 8.1 and then 10, just grab a dvd-r or blank usb stick and make 8.1 install media. This will work with your windows 8 key. Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help
