I was wondering if it was possible to install windows 8.1 onto a separate drive or partition while currently running 8.1. Recently I have acquired a new copy of windows 8.1 and have been wanting to install it onto my ssd. The only problem was that I don't have a disc drive and I do not have a large enough usb drive for the iso. So I was attempting to install it via a virtual drive. It seemed to be working until it notified me that I already had windows 8.1 currently installed and only asked me if I would like to add features. So is there a way to install windows 8.1 via virtual drive onto my ssd?

Yes.

In Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows 8.1 ISO image file and choose either Mount or Open with > Windows Explorer.

D) Open the sources folder first, and run the setup.exe file inside the sources folder. (see screenshots below)

You can now finish doing a clean install of Windows 8 to either the empty HDD or partition.
