Just as the title says. I have no disc it came with pre installed media. I did however get a program that was able to extra the key from my bios. Will that help with anything? It's a Sony T13 laptop.

Search for Windows media creation tool. You can download for free right from Microsoft.

You won't need the key at all, the installer will read our right from the BIOS.

Yeah but the media creation tool is asking for a key once i select the language/keyboard setup. And it says a oem key won't work for a retail download?

Am I suppose to use this program on the laptop that I am trying to get this new win8 install? I just tried using it on the laptop and it's only giving me the option to create a new iso for all the 8.1 versions but I am pretty positive this came with 8 and not 8.1 so the key in the bios has to be for just 8. Why is this media creation tool only giving me the option to create a iso for 8.1?

Ok. Thank You. I will give it a try. So if this works then I am assuming it will skip right over the part where it asks for a key after I select language and all that? Or will i still have to enter a generic key just to get passed that then change the key manually?

If you install the right version - it will not ask for a Key..

No need for generic key at all... And do not use a generic key..

That guide screws more people up then it helps.. as it has very outdated information (hack) on it

Ok. Well it's downloading.. very slowly but it's going. So I'll report back hopefully with good news. Not sure how accurate it is but the win8 sticker on the bottom seems to be for regular 8 and not pro but we will see. Have regular 8.1 downloading.

Most laptops come with "regular" 8 (8 core) and not Pro so you should be fine.
You may have to update some drivers after you finish. Windows 8.1 has most drivers but laptops always seam to need something from their website. Just look in Device manager and see whats not working.
