Hi,
I bought a laptop withWindows 8.1 for my wife and thought I would set it up with a guestaccount and then change it a normal user account after it was up andrunning. Unfortunately, I had not realised just how restricted theuser accounts are compared with W7.

So, my problem is thatwith this guest account I cannot do anything to create a normal useror admin account. I have spent hours and hours on various forumsfollowing supposed fixes without luck. Every solution that I haveread requires that you have a more rights than a guest account to fixthe problem... so a real catch 22 me thinks. I have long converted toAndroid and is a brilliant compared to windows.

Is anyone aware of asolution that works bearing in mind that with a guest user account Icant really do anything that requires any sort of permission. Noteven a reset/refresh, basically locked out!
Thanks in advance

Have you tried going into 'safe mode' to see if the hidden admin account is enabled?

Download and create windows media (link in sig below)
Insert created media into drive and then "restart" your pc
as pc is starting up - keep tapping F12 - to get into boot options
select the USB or cd/dvd media you just created as you boot choice
once you get to the INSTALL screen hit F10 to bring up a command prompt

Type> C:\windows\system32\net user administrator /active:yes

reboot into windows and see if you now have administrator account login

if not, go back to command prompt

type> C:\windows\system32\powercfg-h off

restart back into command prompt again and then

type> C:\windows\system32\net user TEST /add /passwordreq:no

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C:\windows\system32\powercfg-h off (turns hibernate off and removes saved fast start up file)

C:\windows\system32\net user administrator /active:yes (should enable default administrator account)

C:\windows\system32\net user TEST /add /passwordreq:no ( should create a new TEST user account without password)

Hi thanks for the replies. Managed to get back through safe mode. That was the only method I did not try.

Nice one. What did you do so that anyone reading this thread might find it useful in future?
