Installing XP 32-bit after Windows 8.1 x64 Pro

Hi, Everyone, Happy New year and Merry Xmas to all

As the title says, I want to install xp to d drive over win8.1 (c drive) because I can't get 1 of my usb gamepad to work in win8.1 it's a generic usb gamepad. anyway

would I loose the Win8 MBR by doing this ? and what is the easiest way to get it back ?

Not sure what you mean by "Boot Order"..

You can control the boot order (Win8 or winXP) by Control panel > advanced system settings > system properties > startup and recovery..

You can set default boot OS or Display Boot OS Option display time

My bad meant to write bootloader MBR as XP will overwrite it right?

I have installed win8 over xp and it used XP's boot loader..

XP should add it's bootloader as an entry into the windows 8 boot loader..

If you have marcuim, acronis or some other program to make a SYSTEM image - create a system backup image..

That way if all else fails - you can restore your system back to where it was..

Meaning it will start to boot to windows 8 and then give you the option to continue to boot windows 8 or boot to windows XP

I'm gonna do exactly the opposite of that tomorrow for the sake of this game which is only playable via a game controller.
