Can't run Windows 8.1 pro 64bit installation on 32bit

I had Windows 7 64 bit installed on my computer but I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro so I bought a key online and downloaded&installed windows 8.1 pro not realizing it was 32 bit althought I need(ed) 64 bit. Now my plan was to download&install windows 8.1 64 bit, but since I'm running 32 bit I can't run the installation file, not even when I boot from USB (with my installation files on it). Do you have a conclusion? Please let me know, I really do appreciate it! Thanks :)

As you have not mentioned the make and model of the computer we cannot see the specs. Can you processor handle 64bit and did you run Windows Update advisor?

Thanks for commenting! Maybe you misunderstood me but I already have the installtion files for windows 8.1 pro 64 bit, but I can't run the installation because I'm on 32 bit atm. I also can't boot from USB, I don't know for wich reason but when I boot from usb my PC just starts up normally.

Is it really booting from the USB, check your boot order in the BIOS

I put the USB device on the first place in my bios so it is supposed to work. But maybe there is something wrong with the files? Does the usb device have to be empty but only the installation files on it?

Repeatedly press f8 (usually) to open the boot options when restarting. Did you get to that menu before now?

I guess I have to format my usb drive and then put the files on it. Is it right that the only files on the usb should be the files of the Windows 8 installation?

I posted a detailed tutorial earlier; consider going through it step by step and it will tell all. It has steps both for DVD and USB :)
