You are in eight forums, member Ztruker posts in both forums and he surly mixed the reply, not intentionally.
This is what he mean't

Fill out your System Specs please. See here: How to fill out System Specs for eightforums
See here:: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/49651-system-spec-fill-your-eightforums-system-spec.html

Where did you get the Windows 8 install DVD you are using? If you have a valid install key then follow the instructions here:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2299-clean-install-windows-8-a.html

He apologizes and will be in contact with you if need be

As said, hard to help without more specific info like specs and what kind of Windows install source you are using. Upgrade, clean install, disc, ISO, retail key?

Tying the noose.

specs.jpghere are those specs...i think.

So I'm booted into win 8.1 now and am refusing to restart /boot for any reason whatsoever. I've tried every combination and size of partition...but the OS goes on just finer its just the first restart...16 times in a row...i would reboot and would get all the way back to one screen before the win 8.1 login screen...which is a quick moment of the color you chose for your desktop background ..except for me its not a quick moment...it stays there 4ever. I.ve run the HP diagnostics and this hdd...ram...etc...has zero errors...several of the times this happened my hdd was damaged by whatever is doing this...including a brand new WD 1 TB HDD...that was fresh as the driven snow...I formatted ...created two partitions...put fresh copy (from my win 8.1 install disk purchased at staples)of win 8.1 on it....it loaded up...i began installing my regular programs...one eventually needed a restart..so i did ...now io ran a diag ...and my new HDD was damaged in seve5ral places and the recommended removing my data immediatly....ughhhhh !!!...Have you heard anything about the new Nvidia "game ready" graphics driver causing any problems?...because that puppy was present on several of those reboots.

If I read your post correctly, you are able to install Windows 8.1. The problem begins when you install your programs.
Try to install just one program and reboot the computer and see if it starts correctly. It is possible that one of the programs has a bad install media.

I have never heard of a graphics card causing this kind of problem. Suggest you download the correct driver from Nvidia site before installing programs. Use their card scanner to be sure you get the right driver.

BTW: Keep that noose really loose, pardon the pun.

My apologies for giving you info for Windows 7 instead of 8.

Are you saying you followed the instructions in the link posted by Nucci and it still fails on 1st boot after install? If so read on. If not ignore the rest of my post.

Did the computer come with Windows 8 installed or did you upgrade from Windows Vista or 7?
Where did you get the DVD you are installing with? I would suggest following Option One in this tutorial

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.html

to download the latest Windows 8.1 with Update 1 and create a UEFI bootable flash drive then use it to install with following the direction in the link Nucci posted.

Pay special attention to the note in that tutorial:

Win8Note.jpg

Delete all partitions so the drive is empty then let the Windows 8.1 install create the partitions it wants.

How do you have 5 GB of memory? Kind of unusual.

ok...just got home...I'm in a turkey coma

Why isnt there a reply button at the bottom of every post?? or am i missing it because of "TURKEY BLINDNESS"

Nootch...yup...did all that...naked drive...re-boot with one or first program install...and yep ...same result...it would boot all way to colored screen(right before win login page) and snag...then ...cntrl-alt-del...and immediately run HP diagnostics..which now showed BRAND NEW HARDRIVE with multiple sectors with damage ....recommendation: remove all important data immediately.,,,from there (with same hdd) went into recovery options,,NO DICE nothing worked and win recovery was no longer offering me "change start-up options" it was just GONE. I was able to get into windows through safe -mode a couple of the times. So i grabbed another hdd...cleared it down to all unallocated space and installed again and here I am ...not wanting to re-start for fear of crashing permanently and missing FINALS this weekend. my install disk was purched at staples and i came from win 7 pro.

...I wonder if farts that gobble and crapping feathers are symptoms of TURKEY COMA ?

I just realized that if i'm unwilling to re-boot at the present time...you guys cant really help me...huh ? ...oh ..one of you guys had commented that you never heard of Graphics cards causing these kinds of probs. Well neither have I; but I have heard of GPU driver update/installs doing things like this ..several times ...and 90% of them Nvidea.

Could be a motherboard fault, SATA controller maybe? Not sure how you prove that though. I'd swap in a new SATA cable for that drive. How old is this motherboard? What OS was on it before 8.1? Any issues with that OS?

I'm running a GT 640 on this PC and a GT 610 on my other desktop. Latest catalyst on both and both running Windows 8.1 64 bit. I haven't had any of your issues with the default Windows driver or the latest Catalyst from NVidia.
