Problem installing Win 8 on new PC from USB

I bought the Windows 8.1 student edition to install on a new PC. I used Microsoft's media creation tool to get Windows onto a USB for the PC to boot from. I've tried selecting all the editions (N, Pro N, etc.) when doing the media creation tool, and I've selected the 64 bit, but each time I input the code I just bought, Windows doesn't accept the code. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

Can't you also download the matching install media from the school?

EDIT: I'd be surprised if it was N, more likely Core, or Single language.

The Student Key wouldn't happen to be a Volume License or KMS type key would it?
