Solved Create Windows 8.1 usb key problems

Hi

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice.

I have a Windows 8 pro oem copy and I want to create a bootable Windows 8.1 pro Usb stick in uefi format to do a clean install.

Now I built my machine myself so I am sure there is no embedded windows key in the bios? But I cant seem to download anything that will create the media, it says it my key wont work in a retail copy of windows 8.

So does anyone know how I would get around this?

Hello John,

You should be able to enter a generic key at step 4 in the tutorial below to get 8.1 installed. After the installation has finished, you would change the product key to your OEM key to activate with.

Thanks, I was getting the We can't connect right now message as using the generic key while trying to download the iso following the guide for How to Create or Download a Windows 8 and 8.1 ISO but have found an alternative source now.
