Device Manager re:devices after Windows clean install

Can I trouble you for your feedback on something else. Every few months I clean install the Windows operating system on my PC. Is it the same for you in that sometimes the Windows 8 setup picks up all of the devices (it usually only misses one..a Bluetooth peripheral device with a question mark. That's easily sorted by installing Wireless drivers from Dell site). Then on other occasions it'll leave the occasional exclamation mark usually listed in Other Devices but not always. That disappears when the chipsets are installed. Most of the time I never get these at all but its happened a couple of times lately. Im wondering if its caused because Im installing from Windows 8 DVD and not from a factory image.I guess really what Im asking is..Is the Windows Installation sometimes a bit hit and miss at picking up everything in Device Manager during initial setup? Sometimes theres an occasional error and other times its fine (This is on the same system with the same hardware with no changes from previous windows installations)
Thanks guys

My guess is that you have other hardware connected during some of these installs and not at other times.

My question is, why do you reinstall every couple months? Are you bored, just for fun or is it to solve problems. I know this sounds snarky but it's a serious question.

No..I don't have any other hardware connected. Its identical every time.
Its usually every 4-6 months at a guess. Sometimes the system slows down..on the internet etc and in normal use. Ive done the Resetting Internet explorer thing so many times. Seems to work for a few days..and then loads of Recover webpage messages etc. I find it better to ireinstall now and again so everythings brand new again. Its something Ive done for years now. It seems to be a more frequent issue though with Windows 8/8.1. I didn't do reinstalls much at all with Vista

My guess would be maybe the drivers need to be updated to run in 8.1 as you said the Chipset drivers usually fix everything?
I know with my Asus Notebook, I had to update a lot of drivers before installing 8 and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi had to be updated for 8.1

Am I right in thinking that when you update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 from the Store that its not necessary to update all the drivers from the Dell site to 8.1 drivers unless there are errors showing up in Device Manager?

Actual you should check what drivers are available for Windows 8, and for Windows 8.1 and Update. I don't know about your particular machine but mine needed updated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth driver and there were updated drivers for Window 8 that I updated. So you see some hardware and software works just fine in either 8 or 8.11 then again some hardware needs to use the Win 8.1.1 drivers. On the other side I have software that will not run in 8 or 8.1 with out using compatibility mode going back as far as XP compatibility or even 2000 compatibility

After Windows 8 clean install..I installed chipsets, and wireless network and nothing else. There were no other errors in Device Manager that needed sorting out. So those were the only drivers I installed. Then I did all the Windows Updates and this morning I went to the Windows Store and installed Windows 8.1. Ive just checked in Device Manager and there aren't any errors at all so Im wondering if theres no need to Install any Windows 8.1 drivers updates. Though obviously I'll update Nvidia Graphics as usual. Am I right in thinking if there are no errors in Device Manager theres no need to update to Windows 8.1 drivers

Yes if your satisfied with the Windows default drivers. You wouldn't need to worry about it unless you have an issue with something.
