Hi

I know this has been done before but my question is, that after the last Windows August update debacle I had to revert back to Windows 7, I wish now to reload win 8 with my purchased license, will I still get all the win 8, 8.1 and 2 updates.

Thanks

Yes you will. You might want to consider a 8.1 with update clean install though. You can activate it with your windows 8 key.

There are various tutorials here if you are interested.

EDIT: which Shawn beat me to linking to :)

I personally think Windows 8.1 Update is good. You can always update to Windows 9 later if you like it better after playing with a trial copy when available though. :)

Don't forget - it is all in the tutorial - that you need to install 8.1 with the generic 8.1 key and then activate with your Windows 8 key.

Tried to use it to do what? Sorry I'm a bit confused. You will still get updates, yes - the only issue is installation and activation.

If you are trying to install 8.1 you need to use the generic 8.1 to install and then your 8 key to activate. It is in this tutorial http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2299-clean-install-windows-8-a.html

From there here are the Generic keys for 8.1. You need to use the one that matches your 8 key - most likely 8.1 Pro is you have 8 Pro or 8.1 Core if not.

For example my upgrade key was from 7 ultimate to 8 Pro so I used the key XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB to install and then my 8 Pro key to activate.

  • Windows 8.1 (core): 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
  • Windows 8.1 (core single language): Y9NXP-XT8MV-PT9TG-97CT3-9D6TC
  • Windows 8.1 Pro: XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB
  • Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center: GBFNG-2X3TC-8R27F-RMKYB-JK7QT
  • Windows 8.1 Enterprise: MNDGV-M6PKV-DV4DR-CYY8X-2YRXH OR FHQNR-XYXYC-8PMHT-TV4PH-DRQ3H

Hi Brink/adamf

All I have is a windows 8 license which I tried and is ok all I wanted to know was will all the subsequent windows updates (8.1, 8.2) still be available sorry to be so thick! but I`m not as young as I used to be and things take longer to sink as you will no doubt learn in the fullness of time.

If you like, you could install your clean Windows 8, update to Windows 8.1, then update to Windows 8.1 Update by installing all Windows Updates.

OR

If it's a "retail" Windows 8 license (key) and not "OEM", then you could use OPTION TWO below to download a Windows 8.1 ISO file.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.html

After you clean install Windows 8.1, you could then update to Windows 8.1 Update by installing all Windows Updates.
