Hey all...first time poster here. I can normally sort out my PC problems by reading the threads from others, but not this time.
I bought an Acer Predator G5920 over a year ago. i7, 16gb RAM, 2TB HDD with a 16GB SSD-cache. Recently I bought a 256GB SSD, removed the installed SSD-cache and put the new one in its place, planning to use it for my OS.
I performed a clean install on the 2TB HDD and was planning to clone the system partition to the SSD. That didn't work, I'm guessing because the boot info is on a hidden partition on the HDD, and it kept booting to that. I tried to clone multiple partitions but that didn't work either, and when I unplugged the HDD and tried it from the SSD, it of course failed.
So I made an Acer Default Recovery Backup USB, copying the Recovery Partition, hoping to use it to clean install onto the SSD. I disconnected the HDD, plugged the SSD into the cable, put the Recovery USB in, and rebooted.
I clicked on Reset, and selected "Repartition Drive" (it might be something else, my system is in German) and told it to completely format the drive. It proceeded in doing so, and I went for a walk because I know this can take a really long time. When I left it was on about 10% When I returned, it said the PC had had some problems and Windows 8 couldn't be installed.
I might be wrong...but I think the problem could be that I'm trying to do a factory install onto a 256GB disk, when the original drive was 2TB. I'm pretty sure that the PC was running scripts written by Acer during the install which designates how big the partitions will be on the drive. The old 2TB HDD had 5 partitions or something. 2 were approx 917GB (system & storage); the others were hidden (Recovery/boot etc). These of course won't fit on the SSD.
Do I have to edit the scripts myself to change the size of the partitions? Or am I waaaaaaaaaaay off here. Unfortunately I wasn't given any type of an error code (damn you Microsoft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), just "There was a problem resetting your PC." Pricks.
Any advice would be appreciated. This is the final step of a whole series of problems I've had recently. I just want my system up and running on the SSD!!!
