Is it possible does anybody know that if you have a Bios with a PROTECTED OS (Key in the BIOS), can you make the OEM install .ISO and then re-install on the same machine in NON PROTECTED mode by simply using the key from the BIOS. (You need to turn off protected boot -- you can leave UEFI enabled though).
It would appear that if you can make an .ISO this would be 100% legal since it's ON THE SAME MACHINE and using the same windows image that the machine came with.
If I understand what you posted it sounds like you want to install in UEFI mode with secure boot off and use the embedded key? I would think it should be doable. I'm guessing you want to do this so you can dual boot with another OS. Even if it doesn't read the key you should be able to type it in manually anyway? What happens if you turn secure boot off after the install?
My TechNet/MSDN retail ISO's will read the Windows 8.0 embedded key in my laptops BIOS. It came with 8 Core and that's what's installed. Activated online with no issues. If I use an 8.1 ISO thogh I get prompted to enter a key during the install.
