I installed Windows 8 with UEFI on a GPT SSD like the tutorial on this very forum states, but I ran into an issue when I plugged in my secondary HDD (1tb MBR?). It won't boot even if I make sure Windows Boot Manager is the primary boot option. What can I do about this?

If I unplug the drive, it boots fine. If I plug it back in, it stops and Windows tries to repair itself.

EDIT: Figured it out. Apparantly if you're using Win 8 with UEFI, you can't have a 2nd drive that uses extended or logical partition. Since I had Ubuntu on the 2nd drive (logical) it wouldn't boot. I haven't done it yet, but If I delete the partition it should work just fine. I created a bootable usb with Gparted and will fix it later.

Is the secondary drive clean or has it had some bootable OS installed on it?

Any chance of a disk management picture of your SSD install?

Windows and GPT FAQ (Windows Drivers)

What about mixing and matching GPT and MBR disks on the same system?

GPT and MBR disks can be mixed on systems that support GPT. However, you must be aware of the following restrictions:

- Systems that support UEFI require that boot partition must reside on a GPT disk. Other hard disks can be either MBR or GPT.
- Both MBR and GPT disks can be present in a single dynamic disk group. Volume sets can span both MBR and GPT disks.

Windows 7 will not work with a Logical partition on a secondary drive, Windows 8 doesn't care.

It might be related to the Ubuntu install, but you do not indicate what type of install it was.

I had Windows 8 installed on the SSD using legacy and MBR. 2nd drive had ubuntu installed on a partition. The 2nd drive also had a standard data partition I used.
