My asus Laptop, K55N-DB81 has Linux on it. BUT before I had windows 8 on it. Now I want to re-install Windows 8 on it, but I don't know how to. I didn't create any recovery disks , and the Product Key is embedded into the Bios. I know what the Product Key IS just in case I would have to enter it again. Can anybody help me approach this situation?? Do I need to get an iso. to boot from and then go from there or something?

Thanks in advance! ANY help is Greatly, GREATLY Appreciated! :)

If Linux was installed it has most likely trashed any recovery partition you may have had. You are going to need an ISO or disc. Best to contact Asus and purchase the recovery media.

No, the basic recovery disk will not be able to do a full reinstall, it does not have all the files needed. Making a full recovery drive with the "copy the recovery partition" option will only work on the PC it was created on. It would have to be the exact same make and model and even then it may not work. Your best bet is to order a set or recovery disks from the manufacturer.

You can do a clean install if you can find a clean unmodified ISO. If your PC originally came with Windows 8.0, and you use an 8.0 ISO, it should read and use the embedded BIOS key automatically. If it came with Windows 8.1 you would need an 8.1 ISO to make use the an embedded 8.1 code. You can also skip installing 8.0 and go direct to 8.1 by doing this, http://www.eightforums.com/installa...retail-windows-8-1-windows-8-product-key.html

Did you not create your own recovery disks when you got the computer? There was originally a recovery partition on it but when you installed Linux on it, it is gone.

I bought Win 8 x32 and x 64 recovery disks on eBay, nothing expensive.

Damn well didnt work!!!

Reason: not created on machine it was going to be used for. I bought these from a reputable dealer too, not a back street hacker.

If it didn't ship with Windows 8 from the factory you won't find any. None that I personally would use anyway. If it did ship with Windows 8 you'll have to call or e-mail ASUS tech support to see if there are in fact Windows 8 recovery disks for your model. If not your looking at doing a clean install and trying to find a Windows 8 install media.
