New Acer Lap Top came with Linux - How to Install Win 7?

  1. #121

Alright, ok, I changed the boot thing from Legacy to UEFI, and tried loading from USB again...

It worked now, it opened the screen I need...

Even though it's not Exactly Following the Tutorial, I'll finish it like this and God help us all...

Ok, it's doing what it's supposed to do.. according to the tutorial I got...

Ok, the tutorial says in the end:

"Step 14. If everything works well, a few seconds after the update progress completed, the system will reboot.

    That is exactly what happened...

Then when it rebooted it opened up the USB again, great...

Now, what I will do is restart the lap top, enter BIOS, change UEFI to Legacy, mount my Windows 7 ISO onto the USB using UNetbootin, and then the moment of truth, I'll try to install Windows 7...

p.s Acer, I spit on you!

Ok, I remember from last night, it will take it around 1 hour to mount the windows ISO onto the USB...

So we gotta wait that out...

On another note, when I was deciding which lap top to buy, I wanted ONLY acer, I looked ONLY at acer lap tops... And a friend asked me, why not Asus, or Toshiba, or another model, and I said because I have a great experience with my current lap top, which is an acer lap top...

Well, after everything, can you imagine how stupid I feel???

    Boycott acer!!!

LOL... on the shiny side.. we did learn a lot ( like what not to buy...)

    - Besides the completely uses OS they sold with it... why have UEFI (which needs 64bit) yet only dump 2GB
of RAM in there --- small things that leads one to think not much savvy went into producing this machine.

Anyway looking forward to your tutorial ...

correction I see you do have 4GB RAM.. I was looking at this..

    It's still not over...

I put the Win 7 OS on the USB with Unetbootin, the USB is now recognized, but when I select it and press enter I get this:

I'll try... what to try next? Could I open the lap top with linux mint and begin the installation from my computer now?

Wow, ok, even if I boot from Hard Disc (Linux Mint) I still get the same screen...

    The USB is not booting...

I wonder if it's UNetbootin that causing all this - or the ISO boot files are corrupt...

Check the hash of the ISO to make sure it's good - if so, try creating USB with Rufus...

Ok, I'll try using a different ISO to create a bootable USB in a different way..

    Rufus gives 3 options, here:

I should chose the first one this time, right?

Previously I used the UEFI (last one) option to create a bootable USB, but now with Legacy enabled, I should use the first one, right?

Yup... also check whether the bios update didn't enable secure boot again...

I don't think you can use UNetbootin to create a bootable Windows USB. Try some of the other suggestions in previous posts. We're going to get this garsh darn it!

In this guide notice the tip at the bottom: How To Install Windows 7 From USB

That guide seems good but be sure to change it over to Fat32 at the end as the tip says.
