Solved Installing Windows 8 from Ubuntu

I was running Windows 8, but long story short the OS crashed and I had no access to my product key to reinstall it so now I'm running Ubuntu. I'm starting to get a feel for Ubuntu, and it's really not too bad, but I miss Windows and would like to switch back. I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for it though, so I'm hoping to take advantage of my student discount before my college kicks me off there system since I graduated. The only thing I can find with a discount, though, is this http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Windows-8-Pro-Upgrade-%E2%80%93-Student-Offer/productID.264954100. It's the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade. Will I be able to use this to install Windows 8 from a non-Windows OS? I don't want to buy it only to realize that I need a Windows OS to use it. My machine has a Windows Vista OEM, but it's near impossible to find a legit Windows Vista ISO to go back to that and upgrade to Windows 8. Thanks for all the help.

Open source virtualization software VirtualBox was available in the Ubuntu repositories, meaning Virtualbox is a one-click install for Ubuntu users and yes, it is possible to run Windows under UBUNTU. However, I saw most people doing the other way around, including myself. I have both UBUNTU and Linux Mint installed as Virtual Machines, In addition, I also installed a light weight UNIX (UWIN from AT&T) and running shell scripts using ksh, vi etc...

If you can get an upgrade key for Windows 8.1 and somehow manage to download the Windows 8.1 Pro ISO then you will not need Vista or 7 to be installed to do the upgrade. You can just do a fresh install and it is much better this way.
