Can I repair install Windows 8.1 Pro to regular 8.1?

Hello, a while ago I was running Windows 8.0 Pro due to upgrading from Vista via the Windows 8 Early Adopter program. And at the time I was running Windows Vista Ultimate so I got upgraded to 8.0 Pro.

However recently I had done a repair install of 8.0 Pro using the media I was given at the time and then upgraded to 8.1 Pro via the Windows Store. However due to some issues, my Windows Defender will not stay disabled due to what I am guessing amounts to registry corruption caused by C-Cleaner. I had to reinstall Kaspersky Pure 3.0 despite having the compatible version with the OS.

My question is this, Can I perform a repair install on Windows 8.1 Pro but with Windows 8.1 core media to install Windows 8.1 core? Or do I need to do a clean install of the entire blooming drive? If its the clean install I can just simply add buying a new HDD (specifically a WD Blue 500GB) in addition to the OS. However, the reason I am reluctant to do a clean install is the fact I am running Windows 8.1 Pro currently on a P7P55D-E Deluxe Motherboard, which I do not believe technically supports 8.0 or 8.1 in regards to drivers... but will Windows 8.1 supply some basic drivers to hold me over until I build my next computer (I've had this computer for around 3 to 4 years, running an i5 661 on this motherboard with a Samsung HD502HJ HDD. But my planned upgrade is around $1900 due to Australian prices and I live off a small pension with my parents)

My understanding is that Core and Pro are installed from same ISO and depends on which license you use. Also, you have nothing to gain by using Core instead of Pro because there is no difference in driver availability or the way they work. Core is just a somewhat poorer version.
