Hey evryone!:p
looks like today i upgraded my pc to windows 8.1 ,
and before doing that i checked my pc for compatibility probs using the ms compatibility thingy
and it showed that all the programs are compatible.
and believing that i ran the 8.1 setup and checking the first option that keeps evrything, i moved on to the install.
and in the end all my progs were gone except for their app data and only the files were retained.
[ don't worry i took both a system image and a backup of all my soft ]
then i reinstalled windows 8 again and used the system image and once again, tried upgrading to windows 8.1.
Alas, the same result again.
but, since i want the upgrade so badly, i had to reinstalled 100s of my soft again.

the reason why i posted this was to know why this happens and to learn more about what not to do.
appreciate your response,

thanks in advance,:D

@ sri2000:
What you experienced is normal, (I guess!),
but now that you have everything back to normal, tweak everything just the way you want it and take an image of that! :)

No, it's not normal. I've upgraded 3 PCs and 2 laptops from 8 to 8.1.

The easiest way to check your Windows 8 system was to go to the store and search for the Windows 8.1 update. If your system wasn't ok, you would not be able to find it.

Check out this MS article about upgrading and the recommended steps:

http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/47677-regarding-upgrading-windows-8-windows-8-1-a.html

In each of my upgrades, I made sure that all the required updates were installed prior to the 8.1. Then the store showed me the update as available. Each upgrade went smoothly.

Here's the upgrade with a Lenovo Yoga 13.
