I'm not sure what changed it to be honest, I only wanted to see how to do it and changed it back as I wanted 7 as my primary boot. I'll have to have a play with it and see how it works.

If I remember right > you change the default OS > reboot and let it time out and boot to that OS > then on the next boot up it switches to that OS's boot menu. If you look in disk management, before and after, I think you'll see the active partition gets changed. I say I think because I haven't dual booted in a long time so I'm just going from memory.

The boot manager you get is the one that was created when you first define dual boot - that is when you first installed your second OS. For example I dual boot Windows 8.1 but have the boot manager from Hyper-V server (which is black and white like yours) the partition for which I've since deleted.

What you could do is run BCDboot to copy the Windows 8 version

I had the same problem after install W 8 on dual boot with W 7 HP.
The default boot manager was the W 7's that mean that odd black and white dos style menu...
BBy the way when i decided to update my W8 to W 8.1, by a kind of miracle the default boot manager turn into Metro W8's and now whatever i do that mean if i boot on W7 or on W8.1 i always have the Metro Boot Manager and that's fun and more efficient

If you don't have the W8.1 update from Windows Store try to do it and tell us what happen.

    See You.
