ASUS VivoBook X200CA - Booting from USB

Seen as my Windows 8.1 installation may be completely useless, I am going to need help booting up from BIOS. I have been putting Windows 7 (32-bit) on my USB drive and when I boot it with my laptop it shows up and says "Reboot and select proper device or insert boot media and press key". I really need help with this as like I said in my other threads, I have some important exams coming up and I need to do some revision - plus this is my only laptop!

See here: How To Install Windows 7 To USB External Hard Drive

"While one can install Windows 7 from an external hard drive or USB, one can't install the same to an external hard drive. For all those users waiting for a workaround to install Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 to an external hard drive, here is a complete solution."

Sorry, I don't think I was clear enough when explaining or the explanation was ambiguous. What I meant by
I have been putting Windows 7 (32-bit) on my USB drive
is that I have been putting the Windows 7 installation files onto my USB via the Windows 7 DVD/USB Download Tool and trying to boot them up on my laptop. But, as I said, I keep receiving an error "Reboot and select proper device or insert boot media and press key".

Again, I really do need some help with this as I'm not brilliant with computers! However, just so that you know, I have performed over 15 different installations of Windows 7 with this USB, so I am sure that it works and is fine. I just believe that some of my BIOS settings might be wrong!

PS. My BIOS is an Aptio Setup Utility, just like this one:

Ah, okay, makes sense now, thanks.

Have you seen this: UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Help Forums

Edit: What is wrong with the Windows 8.1 install? The ASUS Vivobook X200CA has a touch screen, right? Seems a shame to go back to Windows 7.

    Hi there.

You've probably got PROTECTED BOOT enabled. Try unchecking that and also enable LEGACY BOOT in the BIOS.
Note though if your main HDD is GPT formatted you'll only be able to boot a UEFI version of your OS. Converting HDD to MBR will enable non UEFI OS'es to boot - however the problem normally isn't in the UEFI system it's probably the restriction caused by PROTECTED BOOT.

Once you've disabled that the USB device should be able to boot OK. You will still need UEFI though if the HDD is GPT.

You need to navigate to the "Security" tab and set "SecureBoot State" to "Disabled". Then set "Launch CSM" to "Enabled" and save the configuration. When the system restarts, press "Esc" key to open boot menu and check whether your USB is listed as a boot device.

Here is the official manual for your model -

You may need to follow these steps boot to 32 bit Windows 7 disc ( by referencing the manual ).

    1. Under "Security" tab, change "SecureBoot state" to "Disabled". You may need to either enable or disable "SecureBoot control" to alter "SecureBoot state" setting.

    2. Under "Boot" tab, set "Fast Boot" to "Disabled".

    3. Under "Boot" tab, set "Launch CSM" to "Enabled".

Save and exit the BIOS and use "Esc" key to change the boot order.

I managed to fix everything and am currently installing Windows 7 on my lovely ASUS laptop as I speak!
    1. I booted into my BIOS using F2
    2. I went into the "Security" tab and disabled Secure Boot State
    3. I went into the "Boot" tab and disable Fast Boot
    4. I enabled Launch CSM and Launch PXEOpRom
    5. I went into the "Advanced" tab and went into the "USB" settings, I changed both settings to "Enabled".
    6. I created a Windows 7 USB using these two links:
    a) UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
    b) UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Help Forums7. I am installing Windows 7 now!

Thank you so much for all of your brilliant suggestions,
