Windows 8 Installer "We can't connect at the moment"

After entering a valid retail key into the installer located here I get the following error:



I have tried running the installer on another computer with the same results. I have also tried the netsh command and deleting the Panther folder. The problem arised after doing the trick to download 8.1 with a 8 product key and cancelling the 8.1 installer. It was working yesterday and this morning.

I can't download the OS though. I enter my key, and then it says "We can't connect"

I have deleted the ESD folder and the WebSetup folder. The installer says the key is fine though.

So if my key is blocked, what should I do?

Do they have unlimited licenses? And how do I get my key unblocked? I don't know how it got blocked, maybe I entered it too much

Hi Duck,
I believe MS in their wisdom decided that there is a maximum number of attempts for installation of a specific key per computer i suspect youll have to phone them to activate your comp again.

I've seen other forum members report the same problem. It appears Microsoft will block a key if it is used repetitively. That's how it seems anyway. How many times before its blocked is any bodies guess. I do believe the original intent was for you to do the one download and then burn a DVD. It's also been reported that you can no longer download the 8.1 files with an 8.0 product key. Microsoft blocked that trick download.
