how to delete windows 7 loader from dual boot selection screen

I am currently dual booting windows 7 ultimate and windows 8 consumer preview and it all works great.

My question is on the selection screen for which OS I want to run there is a third option for windows 7 loader XE, this is from an old install of windows 7, is there a way to remove the loader that's not being used anymore?

    thanks

    1. Open Task Manager
    2. File -> Run new task
    3. Type msconfig and check "Create this task with administrative privileges"
    4. Move to "Boot"
    5. Select the option you want to remove
    6. Press Delete

Thanks Delold, tried it during lunch and couldn't get it done.

For step 3, it wouldn't take msconfig but it took config and there was no check box for 'create task with admin privileges', though it was stated just on the screen below where one types config.

For step 4, I presume you mean the boot folder under system 32 folder, there were four files in there such as winload.exe etc and then there was another folder called US-eng I believe, it had the same 4 files in there but they were named winload.exe.mui and were much older than the files without the .mui extension.

I tried to delete the .mui extension files in the US-eng believing these were from the initial install of windows 7 which I don't want but when I went to delete them it said i needed to get admin privileges from system.

any thought as to what is going on?

my boot screen has this options:

    windows 8 consumer preview
    windows 7
    windows 7 loader xe

it's the windows 7 loader xe boot option that is no longer valid, that install of windows was deleted a long time ago, I don't want the windows 7 loader xe option anymore on my boot screen.

    thanks

    Hello Tcman,

You might see if windows 7 loader xe may be listed in Option Two or Option Three of the tutorial below to remove it if so.

    Hope this helps,
